SMMA market research was conducted by Islamic Circles in the UK. The following are some concerns voiced by the British Muslim Community:

  • Exhausting the `Family & Friends' circle - Many people in the UK have small families and a small circle of friends. They therefore find it extremely difficult to find someone who may know of a suitable contact. Many reverts to Islam just do not know where to look!
  • Divorcees/Widow(er)- These categories are heavily looked down upon. It must be stressed that our beloved Prophet Mohammed PBUH married women who had the above status in order to better educate us.
  • Applications- Many profile applications are ridiculously long and are full of irrelevant information.
  • Events/Services- A professional & trust free ‘Islamic System’ of introducing prospective partners is very difficult to find.
  Using information taken from the last Census, here are some statistics about Muslims living within the UK. There are approximately 1.588.890 Muslims in the UK which make up 2.8% of the total British Population.

Location Demographics

  • 38% of Muslims live in London
  • 14% of Muslims live in the West Midlands
  • 13% of Muslims live in the North West
  • 12% of Muslims live in Yorkshire and the Humber

Ethnic Group Demographics

  • 74% of Muslims are Asian (43% Pakistani,           16% Bengali, 8% Indian and 6% Other)
  • 11% of Muslims are from a White Ethnic Group
  • 4% of Muslims are White British
  • 7% of Muslims are White other (Arab etc..)
  • 4% of Muslims are Black

Identity Demographics

  • 70% of Muslims identify to be British
  • 46% of Muslims living in Britain were born in the UK

Age Demographics

  • 34% of Muslims are under 16
  • 33% of Muslims are 16-34
  • 26% of Muslims are 35-64
  • 7% of Muslims are 65 and over

Gender

  • 52% of Muslims are MEN
  • 48% of Muslims are WOMEN
